About 1,800 Walgreens employees will be relocating to Chicago in 2019. The drugstore retailer will house the employees at the old main post office, located on Congress Parkway downtown. The post office has been unoccupied for years and Walgreens plans to open a 200,000 square foot office in the fall of 2019.
Walgreens' parent company will continue to house its headquarters in north suburban Deerfield, Illinois, but about 1,300 employees will be transferred from that location to the new office downtown. McDonald's and Kraft Heinz are other major companies that made the switch from the suburbs to the city recently.
