Starbucks Will Get Rid of Plastic Straws By 2020

With more than 28,000 stores around the globe imagine all of the plastic left behind when you throw away a straw after enjoying your favorite drink from Starbucks. The coffeehouse chain has decided that by 2020 it plans to eliminate plastic straws from all of its stores.  The phase out is happening now and with this move, Starbucks will eliminate one billion plastic straws per year!

Other governments have already started getting rid of plastic straws because they have a negative effect on the environment because the plastic causes ocean pollution and is a threat to marine life. So if you don't mind drinking from something that's going to look similar to a "sippy cup" then get ready because that will be the new type of cup Starbucks will be using to replace the plastic straws.

In the United Kingdom, McDonald's has started testing paper straws and I'm quite sure other restaurants will eventually follow suit. I'm all for it, let's save planet earth.
