Aretha Was Even More Than the Queen of Soul

We could pay tribute to the Queen of Soul until the end of the year and never do her justice.  So much has been said over the past few days and we will continue to share all the memories we have of her music and her life.

The thing that I loved most about Aretha – right after her voice and music – was how she used her gifts to support what she believed in.  Her music was part of the soundtrack to the civil rights movement and she showed up and performed at many pivotal moments in its history.

But she took her music and put it into action... bailing Angela Davis out of jail and being supportive of the rising Black Power movement.

Aretha was also my Soror (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.)… and a beautiful example of black womanhood.  Rest in power, Queen.
