Is College Becoming Less Necessary?

I had a convo with a bunch of younger millennials the other day and we were talking about the importance of college and obtaining and education. What's crazy is about 85 percent of them said that they don't think college is as necessary as it used to be. I was astonished. I was not so astonished at the fact that they didn't think college was as necessary as it once was, but astonished that 85 percent of them felt that way!

Call me old school, but I was taught that no matter what you decide to do in life, an education is necessary and very important. I get it, today going to school is like taking out a 30-year mortgage for some students, and the way finances are set up for most Americans, it may be tough to attend college. Another factor that they feel that way is because technology is practically doing everything for us. That may be true and all, but somebody has to know how to create and develop the technology right?

But on the other hand, there are several resources that are available to students, they just have to research them. Many students have access to scholarships and funds, but they don't take the time to find out how they can get assistance. Everyone is not going to be able to attend a 4-year university.

Even if you go to a community college, trade school or other academic institution, I will always feel that education is necessary. I would never say that it is not necessary. I am a firm believer that knowledge is power and the more knowledge you have the more powerful you will become. And besides, knowledge is the one thing that can NEVER be taken from you.
