Will You Tip If Chicago Requires Servers To Get Full Minimum Wage?

We all pretty much know that servers do not make that much for an hourly wage because they receive tips. Well, at least they are supposed to receive tips. Unfortunately not everybody leaves a tip after they have been served, and in some cases not everyone leaves the standard 15-20 percent tip. But then there are those who go above and beyond by leaving 25-percent or more tips. Kudos.

The City of Chicago may be increasing the minimum wage for servers from a minimum of about six dollars and hour to the full minimum wage of 13 dollars an hour. So if that happens, would you still be willing to leave a tip?

I took a poll of random people and found that most were split down the middle. Some people said they still would leave a tip because working as a server is not an easy job, dealing with different personalities and such. Others said that they would not continue to leave tips because then others who make minimum wage should be entitled to a tip too. Good point.

I'm still trying to figure out what I would do. I feel that if someone is serving you, regardless of how much they make an hour, they deserve to be tipped based on their service. And now that I think of it, I'm beginning to wonder is that why I'm starting to see tip jars everywhere, even at places that aren't restaurants?
