Students Have Other Options During Chicago Teachers Strike

Teachers for the Chicago Public Schools are on strike but although there is no school, there are other alternatives to keeping students active until the strike is over.

Chicago Public Schools will remain open and will be staffed, and breakfast and lunch meals will be served. In addition to the schools being open, students can also go to other places including the Salvation Army, Boys & Girls Club, The Shedd Aquarium and public libraries. Parents can also take their children to Safe Haven and YMCA locations. There are many other locations where students can go, check with their school for more information.

The CTA is offering free transportation to CPS students during regular reduced-fare hours weekdays between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. until schools reopen.

With more than 25,000 teachers and staff on strike, more than 360,000 students across Chicagoland are affected.
