For the first time ever, the annual Soul Train Awards was aired live. A long list of who's who in the entertainment industry walked the red carpet and enjoyed the show. There were several solid performances, including a very powerful one from Lady of Soul winner Yolanda Adams.
Hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell of Martin fame, the actual awards show moved along pretty well, with the exception of some pre-show failures due to a lot of technical issues. The highlight of the award show was the tribute to super producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who won the Legend Award for their lifetime of achievement. There was a special performance honoring them by Sounds of Blackness, the S.O.S. Band, Cherrelle and Alexander O'Neal and Morris Day and Jerome of The Time.
It was a good solid show, and many of the artists who won an award and performed can be heard every day on V103.
