Today's the second day of Kwanzaa... a week of celebrating what our culture, community and family means.
Yesterday was the first day of the 7 day festival and the first principle is Umoja, which means unity and symbolizes what we strive to maintain among family, community, nation and race.
Today's principle is Kujichagulia, which means self-determination. It's all about our community's will to define who we are for ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves.
Right now seems like the perfect time to exercise this principle because everybody has a platform to speak their truth and decide on a good direction.
