Beginning today in Illinois, seniors who are 65 and older and essential workers can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine, but please have patience because there are more people waiting to get vaccinated than there are doses of the vaccine.
We are now in Phase 1B, which qualifies those age 65 and older and a specific type of essential worker. That includes: those who work in a grocery store, daycare employees, public transportation employees, postal workers, teachers and other staff at schools, manufacturing laborers and agricultural workers.
Phase 1A is still in full effect too, which allows frontline workers and those in long-term care facilities to get the vaccine. Gov. Pritzker says the vaccine is limited in many cities across the country so many will have to wait until more of the doses become available.
