Governor Pritzker has signed a criminal justice and police reform bill into law.
The bill is about 750 pages long so obviously I can't list everything that it includes, however the new bill will:
Eliminate cash bond for non-violent offenders.
Requires body cams for officers statewide.
Bans chokeholds as a police tactic.
Allow citizens to make anonymous complaints against police officers.
Of course there are those who oppose this new bill, however it is a good start in the direction of changing the way people of color are treated by police officers and the disparity within the judicial system.
