The IRS started sending child tax credit payments to millions of families today. The extra money will help about 35 million families around the country.
Payments vary, depending on the amount of children per household, but they are averaging just over $400. The child tax credit is part of the $1.9 trillion dollar coronavirus relief package that passed in March.
