Community Connect: Free Mammograms & Help for Sarcoidosis

This week, Community Connect is hooking you up and helping you out with free mammograms and ways to help those with sarcoidosis.

Yesterday was National Mammography Day during October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the state Department of Public Health want as many women as possible to get their screenings… especially since so many people missed getting mammograms during the pandemic. The National Cancer Institute estimated that due to the pandemic, 9.4 million screening tests that normally would've happened in 2020 did not.

The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) offers free breast exams and mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women. To enroll, call 888-522-1282 or contact your local IBCCP agency (find them here) and schedule an appointment in your community.

And a big shout out to Damon Williams and all the other comedians who contributed to a great cause while celebrating a legend a couple weekends ago… their celebration show at Riddles in honor of Bernie Mac’s 65th birthday supported research on sarcoidosis, the respiratory disease that took Bernie's life in 2008 at the young age of 50. It’s another one of those illness that disproportionately affects our community and you can learn more about it or support the cause at their website at this link

Our community connects best when we get the help we need or give the help we can!
