Making History at Harvard

Congratulations to Dr. Claudine Gay… Harvard University just announced that the political scientist and faculty dean will become the prestigious Ivy League school’s first black president in its 386-year history.

Dr. Gay received her Ph.D. from Harvard in 1998 and said, “Harvard is where I found my intellectual home. It has nurtured and inspired me since I first set foot in the yard.” She will become the 30th president of the university when she takes the job in July 2023.

Chicago native Penny Pritzker is the Chair of Harvard's presidential committee and called her a “remarkable leader who is… strengthening Harvard as a fount of ideas and a force for good in the world.”
