Serena Williams is making more history!
The tennis star/fashion mogul is now the first athlete to ever receive the Fashion Icon Award at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards.
Serena was well known for her fashion statements on the court, but many don’t know that she attended fashion school before launching her brand S by Serena in 2019, backed by her philosophy that, “fashion is for everyone, no matter your size, race, or income.”
She also said she was honored to receive the award and stand among the icons she’s always looked up to, adding, “Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve used fashion as an outlet to express myself — fashion gave me the confidence to step on the court and own who I was, and where I knew I was going.”
Other Fashion Icons include Rihanna, Zendaya, Beyoncé, Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, and Pharrell. She will receive her award at the ceremony and gala hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker in New York City on November 6th.
