Habari Gani! Wishing you a blessed Kwanzaa… today is the second day of the festival celebrating African-American culture and principles.
Today’s principle is Kujichagulia or Self-Determination. The focus today is “To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves.”
Nobody else gets to say who we are as individuals or as a community except for us. So let’s be mindful, intentional and loving in what we say about ourselves and to each other and never allow anyone else to call that into question.
As Maya Angelou once said, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
