During Black Music Month in June, we celebrated the roots of today's R&B with a Salute to the Blues & Southern Soul and we're getting ready to do it again on August 31st during the Saturday Morning Wake Up Club from 8am-noon CT!
In June, we talked to artists and executives who were there when the music was being made -- people like Al Bell, former executive of legendary Stax Records, James Alexander, founding member of iconic band The Bar-Kays who originally served as the house band at Stax and blues and amazing soul singer and producer Willie Clayton who recorded at Stax and other Memphis soul labels of the era.
