Community Connect: Veterans Day Celebrations + Free Thanksgiving Turkeys

Community Connect has resources you can use with free turkeys for Thanksgiving and honors for vets!

The Black McDonald’s Operator’s Association’s Annual Food for the Body & Spirit turkey giveaway is today from 7 to 9am at McDonald’s 197th & Halsted in Chicago Heights and Monday from 7 to 9am at McDonald's at 47th & Cottage Grove… they’ll start giving away turkeys at 8am while supplies last.

And the 16th Ward is also giving away turkeys at their community meeting this morning from 10am to noon at the Ombudsman South Campus, 60th & Western. Everyone is welcome... they'll have representatives from FEMA, the Office of Emergency Management, The Chore Foundation, and Fifth Third Bank, which will soon be opening a new branch in the 16th Ward. Their Thanksgiving giveaway includes turkeys and a variety of Thanksgiving goodies while supplies last. See flyer below.

Then tomorrow, when the Chicago Bears host the New England Patriots at Soldier Field at noon, they’ll observe Veterans Day with the NFL’s Annual Salute to Service Game, honoring U.S. Veterans and active military personnel across all service branches. General Randy A. George, 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, the highest ranking uniformed officer and native of the Chicago area, will join the Bears as honorary team captain and his wife, Army veteran Patty George. Soldier Field will have hands-on experiences during the pre-game plus an Army Aviation helicopter flyover.

Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
