What's Happening This Weekend: Howard Hewett & MLK Day Kids Celebrations

It’s a busy 3-day weekend so if you’ve got the day off, make the most of it—even in the cold!

To celebrate King Day with some fun:

Check out Dream with Ice Cream: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tomorrow from noon to 3pm at Nitro Nostalgia, 4252 S. Cottage Grove Ave, featuring specialty ice cream and community reflections. Admission is free, food and treats available for purchase.

Monday is Black Creativity Family Day at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry from 9:30am to 2:30pm. This free celebration for the whole family, features community art experiences, including a collaborative work of art presented in partnership with SkyART, and the Black Creativity Juried Art Exhibition.

Also Monday, bring your kids to the MLK Day Celebration at Chicago Children’s Museum from 10am to 5 pm with art activities, storytelling, and reflection, plus museum exhibits!

In other things to do this weekend:

Tonight, Howard Hewett takes the stage at City Winery Chicago in two shows at 5pm & 8:30pm…

And tomorrow night, for my house heads… it’s For Frankie at Metro, a celebration of legendary house DJ and producer Frankie Knuckles, with proceeds benefitting the Frankie Knuckles Foundation.

Looking ahead to next week:

Wednesday & Thursday, January 22nd & 23rd, Chrisette Michelle takes over City Winery Chicago…

On January 23rd through 26th, Deray Davis brings laughs back home to The Improv in Schaumburg!

And next Saturday, January 25th, it’s Comedy in Bronzeville with Leon Rogers, B. Cole and Stick the Comedian at Haven Entertainment Center in two shows at 6:30pm & 9pm.

Whatever you choose, have fun and don’t let me EVER hear you say you don’t have anything to do!
