Black People Magic: Celebrating the Life of Cavin Yarbrough

Celebrating the black people magic we lost this week… Cavin Yarbrough, one-half of the Grammy-nominated 80’s R&B duo Yarbrough & Peoples, passed away Thursday at 72, due to complications from heart disease.

Cavin was a classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist who formed the iconic duo with his wife and long-time musical partner Alisa Peoples in the late 70s in Dallas, Texas. They were childhood friends who met taking piano lessons, became friends and married in 1987.

They broke through to national fame after they were discovered by Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band and were signed to a label. The pair went on to achieve international recognition as pioneers who helped shape the sound of R&B during that era.

His wife confirmed his passing, saying “He was the love of my life, my protector, now he’s my guardian angel.”

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
