Congratulations to one of the Chicago area’s own, WNBA legend Candace Parker! The 3-time WNBA champion and alum of Naperville Central who also won two consecutive college titles at the University of Tennessee, is being honored this season with not one, but two, jersey retirements.
The Los Angeles Sparks, where Candace won her first WNBA championship with fellow icon Lisa Leslie, retired her jersey during the halftime ceremony last Sunday when they hosted the Chicago Sky.
The Chicago Sky will retire Candace’s #3 jersey on August 25th at Wintrust Arena when the team plays the Las Vegas Aces, where she finished her career and nabbed another title in 2023. Candace’s jersey will hang on the rafters at Wintrust next to the team’s first championship banner from 2021.
Candace is only the second WNBA player to have her jersey retired by two teams and she remains the only player to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in her first season. She went on to receive more accolades including Defensive Player of the Year, Finals MVP, seven All-Star Games and more during her historic career.
You can read more about her story in her recently published book, The Can-Do Mindset.
& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
