Community Connect: Navy Pier Fireworks, Pride at DuSable & Dancing

Community Connect is here to hook you up and help you out with resources to keep your 4th of July and Pride month celebrations going this weekend plus free dance classes!

City officials didn’t host a fireworks show last night for Independence Day but if you want to see pretty lights that go boom, head to Navy Pier tonight! They’ve expanded their usual weekend fireworks show into a special extended display with patriotic music and it’s all free. And Navy Pier was voted by readers of USA Today as the #1 spot in the nation to watch fireworks.

Pride Month wrapped up last week, but the celebration continues today at DuSable Black History Museum from 1-6 pm with Pride Outside: A Field Day Celebration Of Movement, Freedom & Joy. Enjoy music, games, kickball, tug-of-war, obstacle races, volleyball, yoga sessions and double-dutch battles. They’ll also have ways to cool off with ice baths, massage therapy and refreshments. It’s all free and you can register online here.

And Muntu Dance Theatre is offering community classes starting today and every Saturday from noon-1:30pm at Kennedy-King College (6343 S. Halsted Street). Learn dances, techniques, rhythms and history of the African diaspora from renowned Muntu Dance Theatre instructors. The classes are open to everyone from beginners to experienced dancers.

& Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
