Black People Magic Honors Malcolm-Jamal Warner

He was an actor, director, poet, musician and friend to so many in entertainment… today, we honor the magic of Malcolm-Jamal Warner who passed away Sunday at just 54 in a drowning incident while vacationing in Costa Rica.

Malcolm was of course best known as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984-1992) where he rose to stardom and earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 38th Primetime Emmy Awards. That was when he first became our brother, cousin, friend, and maybe even first crush.

Malcolm went on to star in Malcolm & Eddie, Suits, and most recently on The Resident. In 2015, he received a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song Jesus Children with the Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway. And last year, he created the Not All Hood podcast to discuss the lives and experiences of Black Americans.

Malcolm got married in 2017 and has an 8 year old daughter, whose identities he kept private. During his last interview in May on Melyssa Ford’s Hot & Bothered podcast, Malcolm shared that he wanted to be remembered apart from his Hollywood career, saying, “There's part of me that I will be able to leave this earth knowing—and people knowing—that I was a good person.”

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! Xo
