Community Connect is here to hook you up and help you out with resources you can use and this week, we're gearing up for back to school! Yes, and it’s coming up fast... Bud Billiken Parade is next week and Chicago Public Schools students start the new school year on August 18th so let's get the students in our lives ready with these events:
The Chicago Urban League’s Back To School Festival is today from 10am-1pm at 4510 S. Michigan Avenue with free backpacks, health resources, haircuts, giveaways and more for students. (see info on flyer below)
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at 7262 S. Coles hosts its annual back to school rally today from 10am-2pm with free food, back packs, school supplies and more! (see info on flyer below)
Alderman Angela Clay of the 46th Ward hosts the 2nd Annual Back to School Bash at Clarendon Community Park at 4501 N. Clarendon Avenue with face painting, a fire truck, a mobile gaming and beauty truck, plus free haircuts and backpack and school supply giveaways.(see info on flyer below)
Plus something for animal lovers! All month long throughout August, Chicago Animal Care & Control is waiving fees for pet adoptions as part of the Clear the Shelters nationwide adoption campaign. They will still have their standard screening process. Adoption hours are daily from noon-7pm at the shelter at 2741 S. Western. (see info on flyer below)
