Black People Magic: Tracy Morgan Helps Families Eat

Shout out to Tracy Morgan who really made people smile—and not just because he’s good at making us laugh.

The 57-year-old actor and comedian has been making a difference, helping feed 19,000 families through his partnership with the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation, donating more than $200,000 to combat food insecurity in communities that need it most.

Tracy had a life-changing wake-up call in 2014 when he was in a devastating highway crash that left him critically injured and took the life of his close friend, James McNair. That traumatic experience fundamentally changed how he views life, success and what’s worth fighting for. Waking up in the hospital, Morgan recalled hearing his grandmother’s voice, reminding him of lessons learned long ago. “Just when you thought you was doing bad, there’s people out there doing worse,” he reflected. “So I feel fortunate.”

Now Morgan says what matters most is spending time with his children. Morgan feels positive with his approach because he is someone who understands struggle, gratitude and the power of giving back, so he wants to show his 4 children (ages 39, 38, 34 and 12) about what really matters and giving back.

Morgan’s transformation since his accident includes taking better care of himself physically, from walking two and a half miles every day, and training regularly. He said “I’m just trying to live good,” “I’m not worried about how I’m [going to] die. I’m just trying to worry about how I live. I’m living good.”

Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
