Appeals Court Stops San Francisco Soda Warning Law

A federal appeals court says San Francisco can't enforce its soda warning law.  A 3 judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday against the requirement that display ads for sugary drinks include health warnings.  The law requires ads to devote 20% of their space to a warning that drinks sweetened with sugar contribute to obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay.

The court said the message is one-sided and would violate advertisers' freedom of speech.
