Longtime Chicago TV Anchor Warner Saunders Dies

Award-winning journalist, teacher and TV newsman Warner Saunders has died. According to his wife he collapsed Tuesday evening and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. You may recall Mr. Saunders delivering the news on NBC channel 5 for nearly 30 years. He retired in 2009.

I was honored to host a few events with Mr. Saunders, who always stood above the crowd literally and figuratively. He was always so pleasant and when he was on the anchor desk he delivered the news with such class and sophistication.

Before his over 40-plus year career in broadcasting, Mr. Saunders was a teacher for the Chicago Public Schools. He has won numerous awards for news, documentaries, sports, children's programs, talk shows and more.

Mr. Saunders was 83 years old.  Sweet rest.
