Georgia Teacher Accused Of Stealing Student's Violin To Pay $700 Fine

A Georgia teacher was arrested after he was captured by a surveillance camera stealing a student's violin from the cafeteria at Brockett Elementary School, in Tucker, Georgia. The nine-year-old violinist told his or her parents about the theft and they reported the missing instrument to the school's principal.

When officials reviewed the video footage, they discovered that 21-year-old Kalif Jones was the person responsible for stealing the instrument. The footage showed Jones walking through the school with the violin case before leaving. Jones was questioned by police and admitted to stealing the $750 violin so he could pay off a $700 fine he had recently received.

The student's mother told Atlanta news station WSB that police have recovered the violin and that they are waiting for authorities to return it to them.

Jones has been charged with a count of misdemeanor theft.
