Aretha Franklin Receives Pulitzer Prize Posthumously

I'm a strong believer in giving people "their flowers while they still live." Unfortunately that is not the case with the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin's recent honor. Don't get me wrong, the Queen has racked up many accolades and awards over the decades that she has blessed our lives with her voice, but I really wish she could have accepted the Pulitzer Prize recently awarded to her posthumously.

Ms. Franklin received the honorary award for her indelible contribution to American music and culture. She did make history, however, being the first woman singled out for the honorary Pulitzer.

In other Aretha Franklin news, she will also be inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. That ceremony takes place on May 8 in Memphis, Tennessee, the city where she was born.
