A New Grocery Stores Opens In South Shore Wednesday

After six years of being a vacant space, a new grocery store in the South Shore neighborhood opens today. Local Market grocery store is definitely needed in the South Shore area because when Dominick's left the shopping center years ago, most residents had to take public transportation to get to other grocery stores in other neighborhoods.

No longer a food desert, the new South Shore store employs about 180 people, with 70 percent of them coming from the local community, and there are about 30 local vendors featured in the store too. Some of the other features in the full-line grocery store include a wine and beer bar, a juice bar and a large seating area to enjoy friends and family.

The new Local Market is located at the corner of 71st and Jeffrey in the Jeffrey Shopping Center. This store was desperately needed and it showed as thousands of people jammed the store after it officially opened this morning. The first 500 shoppers were given a shopping bag full of groceries. Now that's good customer service.
