Wendy Williams Takes Break From Talk Show Due To Health Issues

Wendy Williams is taking a break from her daytime talk show.

Williams, who has been filming remote episodes of The Wendy Williams Show at home in New York City amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, will be going on a hiatus due to complications involving symptoms of fatigue linked to her Graves’ disease, Variety has learned.

Although a return date for the show has not been set at this time, the outlet reports Williams’ hiatus will last at least through this week. In her absence, only reruns of The Wendy Williams Show will air until she returns.

“Recently, Wendy has been dealing with symptoms from her Graves’ disease which is causing fatigue. In consultation with her doctor and as a precautionary measure, she will be taking some time off as she continues to receive treatment,” a spokesperson for the show told Variety in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming Wendy back soon and continuing the ‘Wendy@Home’ shows. More updates on a return date will follow.”

The 55-year-old television personality went public about her diagnosis in 2018. For those who don’t know, Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes hyperthyroidism, which can manifest in symptoms such as nervousness, irritability, fatigue, muscle weakness, and hand tremors.

This isn’t the first time Williams has stepped away from her show due to health concerns. In February 2018, she took a three-week break just before coming forward with her diagnosis. She would do the same the following year, per doctors orders, causing the star go on an extended six-week hiatus.
