Civil Rights Leader John Lewis' Body Lies In State at the U.S. Capitol

The body of Civil Rights icon John Lewis crossed the bridge where he was almost killed in 1965 after clashing with police because of voter discrimination.

Ironically 55 years later we are still experiencing voter discrimination in this country and that is just sad. Although we have made some strides toward racial equality, lately with the civil unrest it seems as though racial equality has not progressed very much since the 60s.

As part of a handful of ceremonies honoring the law maker, Mr. Lewis will lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Monday and Tuesday, and the viewing is open to the public but the family asks that you please wear a mask if you plan on attending.

Mr. Lewis is the first black law maker to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. He died of pancreatic cancer on July 17. He was 80.
