Gucci Boosts Diversity By Launching Scholarship Program

The iconic fashion house of Gucci has launched a scholarship program for those who are "traditionally underrepresented" in the fashion industry. In other words, Gucci will give scholarships to people of color and gender diversity to make up for the blackface mishap that took place last year.

Full disclosure, I never gave up wearing my Gucci, nor did I vow to never wear the brand again. To me, that would be ridiculous. I believe fashion is an expression of style and creativity. And for some reason I was not offended by the sweater resembled blackface that had celebs dissing the brand and getting rid of their Gucci. That was a bit extreme.

But I am happy to see that Gucci will be offering a $1.5 million scholarship program so the brand can become more diverse. The program will run for four years and offer students at black four-year colleges and universities $20,000 for the academic year. In addition to the scholarships, Gucci will also throw in $1 million in grants to organizations that focus on art and culture, social justice and of course education.

The grant deadline is Nov. 7 and the scholarship application closes Dec. 31. For more information, visit:http://changemakersus.gucci.com
