Over the past few years I have noticed that Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been receiving long overdue recognition. Now comes word that the National Park Service (NPS) is awarding HBCUs in nine states almost $10 million for the preservation of the historic campus sites. Deservedly so.
These institutions of higher learning have provided academics, opportunities and community for many students according to the NPS director. And the grants will allow the schools to preserve the structures that honor the past and tell the ongoing story of these historic institutions.
