There's lots of stuff to do this weekend... and these will get you in the holiday mood!
The always popular and very talented Chicago Children's Choir performs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Center in "Merry, Merry Chicago" for two shows tomorrow (Sunday 12/17), and two next weekend (Friday 12/22 & Saturday 12/23). CCC already performed on WGN Morning News this week with a preview! All shows are great for kids 5 and up and even feature music from community choirs and groups before the shows and during intermission. Find more info and tickets here.
My mother always loved Handel's Messiah for the holidays, so I have a soft spot for it as well... we would listen to recordings of it (on vinyl!) and hear it in concert every year. The Apollo Chorus, one of the oldest musical groups in the U.S. that is also the Chicago area's premier volunteer choir, will perform at the Harris Theater tonight at 7pm (Saturday 12/16) and tomorrow afternoon at 2pm (Sunday 12/17). For some contemporary, inspirational Gospel, check out Chicago's Kinsmen at The Promontory Chicago tomorrow night(Sunday 12/17). You might remember the members of the Kinsmen from the group Youth Edition back in the day... they've been performing together for over 20 years now and their sound has matured and evolved into something you will enjoy and be inspired by. I heard them play last year and they were wonderful! For tickets and information, click here.
Have fun this weekend!
