You can brave the elements, pretend it's really spring and/or celebrate in the comfort of your own home this weekend....
Polar Plunge is this Sunday at 10am at North Avenue Beach… and maybe it won’t be so polar this year! The high temp tomorrow is forecast at 48 degrees and the National Weather Service reports the water temp at 39 degrees. This year, you can see former Chicago Bear Otis Wilson participate in raising funds for the Special Olympics. You can still participate by going out to support the “Polar Plungers” or take the plunge yourself with a $200 donation. They are taking registration at North Avenue Beach Saturday and Sunday from 10am-3pm.
If you want to wet your whistle another way, Applebee’s is running a special for March with $2 Absolut Lemonades all month long, all day, everyday. That should make it feel like spring, even when it doesn’t! (And I think it goes without saying, but I will repeat it... please drink responsibly.)
Movie’s biggest night is tomorrow… The Oscars air on ABC beginning at 7pm with Jimmy Kimmel as host. Some big Chicago names are up for awards, including Common, who could get another statue for best original song. Another name you’ll hopefully be seeing more of is Dee Rees, who directed the acclaimed “Mudbound”… she shares her nomination for best adapted screenplay with Virgil Williams.
Whatever you do, have a great time… and don’t ever let me hear you say you don’t have anything to do!
