Today started off as one of worst possible days… but it’s all good now, thanks to the lessons I’ve learned from my dog.
Allow me to back up a bit. My dog Barry had back surgery a couple of months ago after losing the use of his back legs. He’s still on the road to recovery and getting better every day but he’s still the same positive, spunky dog I’ve always known who works hard and does his best to walk again and boogies around in his cart (basically a wheelchair for dogs) whenever he can.
But today, the elevator in my building went out when we were on our way to his vet appointment. So… I had to carry his 50lb behind down 5 flights of stairs, which freaked him out so much that he pee’d and pooped on me on the way down. I had to make a second trip up those same 5 flights of stairs to get his cart and clean up the mess he left behind.
Luckily, the past couple of months have taught or reminded me of a few lessons about life… I’ll just share three of them:
- People are equally awesome and awful… and you can tell which one they are right away if you’re paying attention.
- Life can be challenging and can get more challenging with every passing day, but if you stay true to who you are and keep trying, it all works itself out somehow.
- When you start your day off getting pee’d and pooped on, it can only get better from there.
Take what you can use and leave the rest... but make sure you thank my boy B for what works!
