IT'S HOT! Here's How to Stay Cool!

posted by Jeanne Sparrow -

The heat index has been dangerously high since yesterday and the excessive heat warning continues through tomorrow (Sunday) at 7pm.  That means we need to be careful outside… if you’re starting your 4th of July festivities this weekend, drink lots of water, stay in the shade, be careful when you’re manning the grill and watch it with the alcohol and anything that has caffeine in it.

Also, keep an eye on the elderly, those with chronic conditions, especially asthma and lung conditions, small children and pets.  And if you don’t have air conditioning, go somewhere to cool off and check on anyone who doesn’t, too… the city has cooling centers and will do wellness checks on anyone you can’t get to right away.  Just call 311 and they’ll direct you to the nearest center or check on those you’re concerned about.

The best news about this heat is that if you keep up with watering, your gardens will be beautiful, especially if you’re growing veggies and fruits.  Call when the tomatoes are ripe and I’ll take them off your hands!

Be safe!
