This week on October 24th, fans marked the 40th anniversary of the release of “The Wiz”… produced by Quincy Jones and starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Richard Pryor, Lena Horne and everybody who was anybody in Black Hollywood.
According to the LA Times, it was a box office bomb when it was released… costing the studio more than it made. But we all know that it was a hit for the long run. The same thing had happened with the Broadway musical that inspired the film. It started off slow, then became a big hit, winning 7 Tony Awards, including best musical.
Between Ease on Down the Road, Home, Everybody Rejoice (which was written by Luther Vandross) and all the other big hits and moments from the movie… which one is your favorite?
