Governor Pritzker announced yesterday that all schools in Illinois will remain closed through the remainder of this school year.
He said that he considered the many downsides of closing in-person instruction for Illinois’ children but said in the end it came down to how many lives could be saved by limiting physical contact until there’s a vaccine and effective treatment.
Pritzker also saluted teachers, parents and students going through this difficult time and encouraged teachers to take the challenges in dealing with COVID-19 and these difficult times into account with their grades. He also pledged continued support and resources for districts serving low-income students.
The governor noted that this does not necessarily mean that the stay at home order will be extended and that they are evaluating that on a day-by-day basis… it is still in effect through April 30th.
