Sony Music announced yesterday that they’re starting a $100 million fund to donate to organizations working against racism and toward social justice. The fund will start donating the money immediately and will support causes around the world.
This announcement comes on the heels of the company’s participation in Blackout Tuesday earlier this week… where music industry took a time out from work to speak out against racism and support the African-American community. The company hosted a day of programming around those themes.
Several divisions of Sony Music are run black executives, including the highest ranking black executive of a global music company, Jon Platt, the chairman and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
This initiative also coincides with the beginning of Black Music Month (also called African-American Music Appreciation Month) in June, which celebrated the contributions of black artists in the world of music.
Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
