Today, Black People Magic celebrates us… in all our glory, standing up for ourselves and our right to justice, peace and equity. And also to our allies who stand with us and speak up when others can’t or don’t want to hear us.
This is another thing that gave me hope yesterday when I was trying to figure out how to finish this long hard week. Seeing members of every major sport strike, postpone games and cancel practices to bring attention to the injustice of Jacob Blake’s shooting in Kenosha gave me hope.
Seeing all the people who showed up yesterday at Reverend Sharpton’s National Action Network Commitment March in Washington DC on the 57thanniversary of Dr. King’s March on Washington where he delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech gave me hope.
All the people who protest peacefully here in Chicago and in cities large and small across our country until something is done and progress is made in the fight for justice give me hope everyday. (There’s a Black Lives Matter march to shutdown the Mag Mile today at 5pm and find a list of upcoming protests coming up here.)
This fight to be honored as the beautiful humans we are is the epitome of Black People Magic… may we all get to the promised land Dr. King spoke of soon.
