This week’s Black People Magic is celebrating one of Chicago’s best MCs… Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe and Oscar winning hip hop star Common is blessing us with new music this week!
He dropped an entire album this week called “Beautiful Revolution Pt. 1” that sounds like it’s going to be so fire, just from the band and the collaborations… but it’s got a message for the times as well. He said, “It’s music to go with a movement… regardless of the outcome of the election, we need to make sure things do not return to the status quo. The intention of the music is to channel all of our pain and outrage into something productive, inspirational and good.”
Here’s just some of the team he worked with: Robert Glasper and Chicago’s own Isaiah Sharkey plus Black Thought from the Roots and Lenny Kravitz. The first single is called “Say Peace” which he will perform Wednesday night, the day after the election on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.”
And either way, here’s hoping nothing goes back to the status quo in whatever our beautiful revolution looks like to each one of us. Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
