Happy Kwanzaa! Today is the 3rd day and the principle is Ujima… which means Collective Work and Responsibility. This principle encourages us to do what we can to build and maintain our community together and make our brother’s and sister’s our problems and to solve them together.
A perfect example of Ujima in action is the protest at police headquarters yesterday calling for reform in support of Anjanette Young and the horrific raid she endured last year. Reverend Jackson, Congressman Rush, Lt. Gov. Stratton and scores of black women showed up to speak out… and that’s the very definition of collective work and responsibility.
That could have easily been any one of us and raising our voices to make that right and prevent it from ever happening again is what collective work and responsibility are all about… we cannot do it alone. Keep pushing y’all!
