Black People Magic: The Greatness of Cicely Tyson

This week had some great Chicago moments of Black People Magic: Rosalind Brewer was named CEO of Walgreens, becoming the only Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company and Emmett Till’s childhood home received landmark status and will become a museum.

But we also several icons including the epitome of Black People Magic… legendary actress Cicely Tyson left this earth on Thursday at the age of 96, working until the very end, just after publishing her memoir, “Just As I Am.”

We GenXers have her etched in our minds from our childhood as Miss Jane Pittman and Kunta Kinte’s mother in “Roots.” She was an amazing and talented actress, who was always the standard bearer for pride in our greatness as Black people.

Check out the links to just a few of the amazing tributes to her life... from her final interview with Gayle King, to posts from her godson Lenny Kravitz and another family member plus President Obama’s memories, after awarding her the Medal of Freedom.

& May we all get to be a little bit like Cicely… and remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
