If you watch Shark Tank, you probably remember Chicago couple Kim & Tim Lewis who turned down a $400 thousand offer to invest in CurlMix, their natural haircare line, because one of the Sharks (Robert Herjavec) wanted 20% of equity in return.
Turns out, the Lewises made the right decision… less than 2 years after that appearance, they just took CurlMix public, opening investments to their fans and supporters a month ago, raising $1 million in under 4 hours. They’re at $3.6 million now, about 3/4s of the way to their goal of $5 million.
That’s amazing for a company that’s just over 5 years old! CurlMix launched in 2015 and generated $1 million in sales just 3 years later. They may have passed on the Sharks, but they’ve gotten investments from superstar angel investors. And Kim said they really wanted to crowdfund the rest because they “…want to build more wealth for our community… (they) love the J. Cole line, ‘What good is first-class if my homie can’t fit?’”
Indeed Kim & Tim! Way to become a Chicago success story… if you want to support them and make some money by investing in CurlMix, click here for more information. (And check out more of their story and pics of the gorgeous hair their products create on their IG account here and posted below!)
Keep on pushing y’all!
