Lots of Black People Magic to celebrate this week… here are the highlights:
The WNBA celebrates as it starts its 25th anniversary season… and I remember when people doubted it could even be a thing. Go girls!
Here at home, 30 year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt just became the first woman and first black person to lead the department… and given what she’s also been through losing her son Blair to gun violence, what an accomplishment. Congratulations sis!
& The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2021 inductees and it looks like a lineup for BET or the NAACP Image Awards: the incomparable Tina Turner and Jay-Z are entries in the performer category… early blues guitarist Charley Patton and Gil Scott-Heron, the ground-breaking poet and performer who laid the groundwork for hip-hop, will receive early influence awards… LL Cool J and Billy Preston will be honored for their musical excellence… and legendary music executive Clarence Avant will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for his major influence on the industry.
And that happened all in one week… love that Black People Magic!
& Remember to always celebrate your magic whoever and wherever you are! xo
