The city is rolling out close to $80 million in rental assistance to keep people in their homes with the lights on.
Mayor Lightfoot announced this week that money from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program will be available for up to 15 months for renters and landlords affected by the COVID quarantines. The measure also includes help for utility bills.
To qualify, you have to live in Chicago and have endured a hardship related to COVID like a job loss, reduced hours or illness in the family and at risk of losing your housing. There are income limits as well and you have until June 8th to apply.
You can apply online at chicago.gov/renthelp or if you have any questions or need help, call the program's help line at 312-698-0202. The line is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (They're closed for Memorial Day next week.)
