This story really inspired me this Thanksgiving… remember the older white lady who texted a young black man by accident thinking it was her grandson and invited him to Thanksgiving dinner? Well, they’re still friends and still celebrating together!
Back in 2016, Jamal Hinton replied to Wanda Dench’s text, telling her she had the wrong number but jokingly asking if he could still come… and she said yes! And their tradition of gathering for the holiday is still going strong today.
They told the Today Show that the last couple of years were bittersweet since Wanda lost her husband Lonnie to COVID in April of 2020. But they said the tradition means so much to them and that they get together during the year, not just for Thanksgiving.
Jamal said, “I’ve been enjoying almost every second of it.” And Wanda added that Jamal has changed her life and her view on the younger generation.
& That is definitely something to be thankful for – pure friendship, admiration and love.
