This week was one for the culture -- other news may have gotten most of the attention, but history kept happening:
Congressman Bobby Rush’s Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act was finally signed into law by President Biden this week. The legislation officially recognizes lynching as a federal hate crime.
In a separate action, the president also appointed actress Taraji P. Henson & NBA star Chris Paul to the 18-member board of advisers on HBCUs this week. The board's work includes an ongoing commitment to supporting and protecting historically black institutions of higher education, as many have been targets of hate and threats recently.
& Beginning Monday, ESPN will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball on April 15, 1947, when he took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The sports network will debut short videos every day from Monday until the anniversary on SportsCenter and other programs, featuring interviews discussing Robinson’s legacy.
Celebrate and protect all the things that truly are "for the culture." ✊🏽
