Chicago Juneteenth Celebrations

Juneteenth (June 19th), also known as Black Independence Day, is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and a celebration of the culture.

Since it falls on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be observed Monday ((June 20th))… federal offices, banks and post offices will be closed along with many corporations observing the holiday.

Celebrate the holiday tomorrow at the DuSable Museum’s FREE Juneteenth BBQ and Block Party from 11am to 8 pm with food, vendors, performances, a kid’s corner, horseback riding, and more.

Today and tomorrow, 1865 Fest on Music Court Drive in Garfield Park is a Juneteenth celebration which will also honoring Black military members and fathers.

And Monday, the Pullman Porter Museum on 104th hosts their 10th annual Juneteenth free community celebration from 11am to 10pm… their neighborhood parade kicks off the festivities at 9am at Gately Stadium Park.

Happy Juneteenth!
